Bee, wasp, and hornet stings and fire ant bites usually hurt. Mosquito, flea, and mite bites usually itch. Insects can also spread diseases. In the United States, some mosquitoes spread <a href='https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/westnilevirus.html'>West Nile virus</a>.
